As a child of a narcissistic parent I found this movie unmoving. Maybe I expected too much from it thinking I would find a connection with the characters but hell I've cried at a gum commercial. I'm not sure if it was the acting or how it was directed but I felt little sympathy or interest for either of the characters even with knowing it's based on true events. Otis is portrayed as cold and disinterested through out the film so it's hard to feel connected with him. The only characters that shows any palpable emotions in the film is the abusive father and the pedo neighbor girl which left me uneasy. Overall it was very restrained maybe the director was too obssed with Harmony Korine to portray any emotions other than discomfort.
